A great introduction to the music of an American master of melody.

Born December 10, 1913 in Richmond Hill, New York, Morton Gould gained early critical attention as a piano prodigy, and for his composing and improvising abilities. Most of his music studies were with Abby Whiteside in piano and Dr. Vincent Jones in composition. At the age of 21, Gould was conducting and arranging a weekly series of orchestral radio programs. Many of his lighter works and orchestral settings were originally introduced on these broadcasts. In March 1986 Gould became President of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a position he held until his death. He was also a member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.

Review:
"This is a superb collection of music by one of the country's most gifted composers... His music is tuneful, communicative, inventive, optimistic and brilliantly scored... He has such a wonderful feel for the idiom that one often thinks he is quoting a folk tune when it is really pure Morton Gould. His music speaks in a clear and expressive voice and embodies so many of the best aspects of the American sprit..." (American Record Guide)
