Heartfelt music with performances to match.

About this recording, Steven Honigberg, the series director, writes: "The United States Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. presented its first chamber music series in the Meyerhoff Theater in the summer months of 1994. The music on this disc was performed during that series. The programs featured music by talented composers who perished at the hands of the Nazis, as well as composers who were permitted, for a brief time, to continue their creative activities while imprisoned in the Theresienstadt ghetto and concentration camp. In addition, the series spotlighted music with Jewish or Hebraic themes, as well as Holocaust-related works by contemporary composers." In honor of this performance of his Piano Trio, the great Russian composer Moisei Vainberg wrote the following: "I would like to thank the Holocaust Memorial Museum, its leaders and all of its staff for its outstanding work. Thanks also to the musicians for their attention to my composition. My parents and sister died in the Warsaw Ghetto. I hope that I will be able to see the Museum some day." This is indeed, a very moving disc.

Review:
"Vainberg's 'Piano Trio, Op. 24' is of special interest. Vainberg is a Polish Jew who fled east when the Nazis invaded Poland. He has lived in Moscow since 1943. Although it premiered in Moscow in 1945, it wasn't performed in the U.S. until Honigberg, George Marsh, and Joseph Holt did the piece at the Holocaust Museum last year... The sound on this CD is crisp and well-balanced... recommended for its scope and achievements." (Jewish Herald Voice)
