Reviews

  • "American composer, pianist, and educator David Gompper was born in 1954. Every work of his that I have heard shows him to be a gifted composer. There is a consistency in his expression that demonstrates he is composer with his own personal style. That style is based on classical phrase structures. While some of his music will flirt with tonality, the works on this disc are not particularly tonal. Violinist Wolfgang David is in complete sympathy with the music. His technique is remarkable and his attention to detail is outstanding. Equally outstanding are the performances by cellist Hannah Holman and pianist Réne Lecuona. Holman's intonation is consistently excellent. Lecuona seems to lavish well-considered planning to every note she plays. Her control of the keyboard is amazing. The playing of both musicians demonstrates first-rate musicianship. It is rare to encounter double bass playing on the level of Volkan Orhon. He brings a level of virtuosity, technique and expression one is used to finding in an accomplished violinist. This is fantastic playing. Gompper demonstrates that he has great facility at the keyboard. He is a very good player."
